In the 1850's when Central Otago was NZ's wild west and the directions around the place was somewhat limited (even Queenstown was named yet), John Turnbull Thomson took it upon himself to take a little wonder (for a few years) and named a few landmarks around the place. Mt Aspiring, Mt Earnslaw and Lindis Pass, Pisa Range to name a few. It is under the Pisa range 'Surveyor Thomson's great great grandson David developed Domaine Thomson. As a tribute to his great great grandad David labeled his entry level Central Otago Pinot Noir Explorer. Crafted by a local Pinot Noir magician Dean Shaw Explorer is youthful and exuberant with cherries, but will keep you exploring with fresh herbs, spice and anise. Great with gamey meats, Venison, Rabbit, or with a herb encrusted lamb rack.
