Perfect with seared scallops, poached crays, roast chicken or the classic fish n' chips! Duncan McTavish and the team at Man O' War often rave about their glorious vineyard soils covering the Waiheke Island estate like the 'Stony Batter clay loam'. Which is claimed to be a world exclusive to Man O' War. Four vineyards Little Beast, Lone Kauri, Nikau, Puriri, Root Rake have the honour of this unique volcanic soil and together have created the very distinctive Valkyrie Chardonnay. Duncan's desire was to create a Chardonnay which represents the soil and sites, so it was pretty basic winemaking with a wild barrel ferment and not much more. Lovers of those big buttery Chardy's turn away now....as there was no lees stirring or malolactic ferments creating that character. But it does have this delicious stonefruit flavour just as you would find crunchy into a juicy peach or a freshly plucked nectarine. As this Chardy had a very important job to represent the island vineyards in their purest form. when it came to naming this golden drop the Man O' War team looked to one of the most important jobs in Norse mythology - the gorgeous Valkyrie's who's job it was to decide at battletime who would live or die!
