From the Cellar Selection tier of Villa Maria’s impressive stable of wines the 2017 Gris is tantalising textural rewarding the taster with layers of fruit flavour.
A wine for the table especially if table already has plates of Crayfish, BBQ’d Prawns, or Asian cuisine.
Villa Maria’s CS Pinot Gris of the 2017 vintage follows the Cellar Selection hallmark of intense flavourings of varietal fruit. The fruit intensity you find in this Gris starts life Marlborough predominantly in the southern Awatere Valley. Attention to optimise the fruit flavour was carried through from vine to wine. Both tank and barrel ferments were used for added complexity along with encouraging a gorgeous texture by leaving the wine on lees for three months.
The finish blend exhibits a glass full of ripe pears and baking spice aromas to tantalise your nose. To taste this Pinot Gris carries on the Pinot Gris tradition of being a stunning foodie wine adding layers of flavours to your meal. These flavours begin with fresh pear followed with the liquid equivalent of cinnamon and apple cobbler sprinkled with fresh almonds. The integrated acidity reminds you, you’re drinking a wine instead of eating a pie. Talking of food, pop the CS Gris next to a plate of crayfish or a lightly spiced Asian dish to really bring the flavours alive
