Neudorfs 2014 Maggie’s Block Pinot Gris is less zippy than previous editions, but is still very much the extrovert in the room. Her broad body will fill your mouth with a style more acquainted to the Gris’s of Alsace exubing characters similar to both Gris and Gewurtz. It’s Maggie’s tactile sensation that will rock your palate, which perfectly pairs with Asian cuisine or Pacific Rim flavours. Neudorf vineyards was created out of a passion for the land by pioneers Tim and Judy Finn. The couple’s constant drive to make beautiful wine over the last 35 years has seen them gain international success as “One of New Zealand’s most admired producers” The Finn’s credit Nelson and Moutere subregion to making their extraordinary wines, with a helping hand from the dedicated team headed by Winemaker Todd Stevens. Neudorf’s wines of distinction exist to express the remarkable vineyard sites of Nelsons endless sunshine and the characters of the land. The 2014 Maggie’s Block takes a slightly different turn in style than previous creations. Maggie is still very much the extrovert in the room but contains less zippy zingy acid, and focuses on the broader voluptuous body to get your mouth around. This Nelson PG is a single vineyard wine that is hand harvested at a very low rate crafted using some partial old barrel wild yeast ferments. Flavours are more in the direction of an old world Alsatian Gris similar to both Gris and Gewurtz with nashi pears, rosewater and light ginger spice characters.
