Vinum is RIEDEL's basic grape varietal specific series. Designed by 10th generation glassmaker Georg J. Riedel, Vinum was created to ensure every wine lover could access greater wine enjoyment. When Vinum was introduced in 1986 it was not just an important year for RIEDEL but for wine lovers around the world, as the launch of the machine-made collection fundamentally changed drinking glass culture. 

The series was based on Sommeliers, the first wine-friendly wine glass collection, with glass bowl shapes based on the character of wine. Georg J. Riedel, presented a further innovation beyond Sommeliers even more momentous: grape varietal specific glassware made by machine to significantly reduce their cost.
