This delicious claret powers up your senses with generous fragrances of red and black plums, blackcurrants, and dried herbs. These flavours continue in the mouth joined by the ageing and barrel characteristics of pencil shavings and coffee plants. The memorable soft but rich tannins distinguish this wine, which are deceptively powerful, oozing class while filling out your palate.

Esk Valley’s Bordeaux blend, is recognised as one NZ‘s best value reds from the internationally acclaimed Gimblett Gravels. This Bordeaux blend of grapes is a wonderful product of Esk Valley’s creation in the late 1980’s, which led George Fistonich to buy and rejunevate the historic Glenvale winery. Gordon Russell (Senior Winemaker) and his team use the authentic traditions of this wine’s heritage to craft outstanding quality, supplying you great value year after year. The 2018 vintage of this ‘hands on’ wine is made with trifecta base of Merlot 44%, Cabernet Sauvignon 23%, and Malbec 22% varietals. High quality grapes of these varietals are a product of the prestigious Gimblett Gravels (which generates excellent drainage, and low vigour soils) and the low yielding viticultural practices of the vineyard team. The red grapes then benefited from Esk Valley’s traditional techniques of authentic hand-plunging for gentle tannin and colour extraction. Following ferment the wine mellows a year in barrel, before the individual variety and vineyard parcels were blended for your enjoyment.
