TEMAAWATEA

Te Mata Awatea 2022

Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
  • The little bro of the iconic Coleraine
  • But compared with it's big brother, Awatea is a positive bargin at half the price and is an experience to remember.
  • The 2020 vintage gave the Awatea intense powerful characters with a persistance tannin structure to give it life after the recommended cellaring time of 8-10 years. This intense claret experience welcomes you in with concentrated plums, blackcurrants, and blackberries. After which the warm reception extends into fine tannins with characters of chocolate, baked cedar, a savoury liquorice.
  • Case of 6 ($45.90/bottle)
Awatea is crafted using the same palette as Te Mata’s iconic flagship –Coleraine. Just like it’s big bro, Awatea is designed as a ‘Bordeaux blend’, using a mix of Cabernet Sauv, Merlot, Cab Franc, & Petit Verdot. Effectively the talented team at Te Mata they have created a Coleraine experience that’s a lot kinder on your wallet. As with Te Mata’s other premium wines the picture on label gives a clue to origin of the wines name. Indeed Awatea was named after the 1930’s ship ‘SS Awatea’ meaning Eye of the Dawn. The team behind the SS Awatea were awarded several medals for there service on such a vessel of high standard of luxury that just kept on going during wartime. Just like the her it's namesake Awatea the wine will award you with luxury and longevity. So don't worry you have plenty of time to enjoy this baby Coleraine, cellaring for approximately 10 years but when you do pop the cork (yes you need a corkscrew) you will experience a classic Hawke’s Bay red with bundles of flavour.
