The 2021 Nautilus Pinot Gris comes courtesy of an great growing season. Through the preservation of the fruit flavours, along with the magic of Clive’s winemaking touch, Nautilus’s 2019 Gris will deliver a stunnng tasting experience, especially when you pair it up with the well matched flavours of shellfish or pork. Once poured, hovering above the glass the upstairs senses will find apple and pears with added characters of jasmine, nutmeg and ginger spice. To taste, this Pinot Gris is made in a dry style, with a touch of sweetness at 2.5g/L residual sugar contributing to a mouth filling experience. This elegant Gris is welcoming to your taste buds with integrated flavours of ripe pears, lychees, and red apple acid flavours, in amongst layered creaminess of nutmeg and ginger spices. From the Waipara stable of Pegasus Bay, the Main Divide label that has enough attention grabbing characteristics as the mountain range it’s named after.
Citrus and mineral acid flavours are dominant, as soon as you experience this wine, subsiding to the softer fruits of melon and peach after the wine mellows in your mouth. Evidence of the 18 months spent in old oak appears as buttered toast characteristics. But it is the backbone of mineral acid that defines this wine showing some serious hang time in the mouth.
