Greenhough Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Nelson, New Zealand
ShellfishPizza - Light FlavoursAsian-Cuisine
  • A Nelson Classic – a Sauvy with high Hope
  • This quiet little achiever from Hope just out of Nelson each year produces stunning textural Sauvy's that are amongst the best in the land.
  • Floral aromatics initiate you into Greenhough’s Sauvignon experience, unfolding to reveal fresh herbs, capsicum and pears. This assertive yet elegant Sauvy then fills your mouth with ripe tropical flavours of capsicum, gooseberry and melon, complemented by fresh herbs. Varying components begin to unravel the layers of this wine followed by a textural savouriness, a touch of spice, ending in a crisp dry finish.
In late 1990 the Greenhough label was established by Andrew Greenhough and Jenny Wheeler who reinvigorated a small 4 hectare vineyard in Hope just out of Nelson that was originally planted in 1974. Andrew and Jenny’s nursed the old vines and added new plantings together with the modernisation of the estate. Four vineyards now contribute to the Greenhough label (two estate, two contract) who produce wines of varietal character expressive of their vineyard sites.
Four separate harvests were completed for Greenhough’s Sauvignon Blanc over a fortnight at the end of March. Textural and aromatic yeasts were chosen for tank fermentation, with 4% of the juice going into barrel for a wild ferment resulting in a wine profile of varying layers. Floral aromatics initiate you into the familiar Sauvignon flavours unfolding as fresh herbs, capsicum and pears. The delight comes when you find a little bit extra in the taste, from this assertive yet elegant Sauvy. Mouthfilling ripe tropical flavours of capsicum, gooseberry and melon enter your tastebuds touched by fresh herbs. After which you gain a feel for the complexity of the varying components to this wine. A textural savouriness, with a touch of spice starts to show, ending in a crisp dry finish.
